Reality Check About Page

::AM I TARGETED BY BIG TOBACCO?::

If you are a teen between the ages of 13 and 18 then you are a target to the tobacco companies. They consider you "REPLACEMENT SMOKERS" and try to target you where ever and whenever they can. To them you are "young and foolish". They know teens like to try new things and they try to make smoking one of them. Remember their loyal customers are dying and they need to replace them… if they can get you hooked from a young age, they'll make money off of you for years. Plus you have money and probably very few financial obligations so it is easier for you to afford their products.

::WHY DOES BIG TOBACCO TARGET ME?::

Again, they need new customers and you're it. They want you to start smoking at a young age and after getting addicted, will continue for the rest of your life. You'll be smoking a pack a day, and that's means a lot of money. You might get cancer, but they'll get your money, so they don't care. To them you're just "REPLACEMENT SMOKERS" until the next generation of teens. It might just be your brother or sister they target.

::HOW DOES BIG TOBACCO DO IT?::
They go to all the magazines you and your friends read and they put appealing ads in them. They slap their product names all over the sports you watch on TV. They give out hats, shirts, and all sorts of gear with their brands all over it. They go into your convenience stores and slap their brand names all over the place. Everywhere you go... they're there... you can't hide from them. Don't think they stopped because it's now illegal to do some of that stuff. You see the government caught on to them targeting you... which was illegal. So the government took them to court and put a stop to billboards, giving away gear, and put a lot of restrictions on them. But, they're sneaky, they found ways around the restrictions. For example, since this agreement, the amount they spend advertising in Rolling Stone magazine has TRIPLED! They haven't stopped targeting you, they just have to work a little harder to do it. They need "REPLACEMENT SMOKERS" or they will go out of business.

::CAN I STOP BIG TOBACCO?::

You certainly can. Just now you've already started on it. First, realize that YOU ARE BEING TARGETED and that they want your money even if they have to kill you (with their toxic product) to get it. After you realize they're out to get you, avoid their traps and don't smoke! You'll save money, feel better, and you'll be safe from their traps. We should fight back and we are! Reality Check was created to unite the teens of New York State to fight back against big tobacco. Reality Check wants to target teens, too.... To warn them about who is after them, their wallets, and their lungs. If you want to help fight back all you need to do is join Reality Check! It's quick, it's easy... and it's a lot of fun. You even get FREE gear for signing up... a lot better than the gear Big Tobacco has.
